Description

My entry for pair number 10 from :iconlabsbykibam: mare and foal auction.

Mare:

Registered Name: Fade To Black
Barn Name: Fae
Breed: Thoroughbred
Gender: Mare
Age: 6
Height: 15.1hh
Color: Black (summer/sun-bleached)
Genotype: Ee/aa
Story:
Fae came to Royal Ashcroft Stables as a young mare, bought at auction. She was uneasy, unsettled somehow. Perhaps it was because she was so young, she was well bred but still green.

However she had potential, a certain spark in her eyes, like she was hiding a secret. She was a gentle black, sun-kissed from years of an outdoor life. She wasn't used to being stabled. In the meadow she was her true self. She held her head up proudly, and her tail high. You could have easily mistaken her for an Arabian. She moved gracefully, but with such speed.

She was focused, determined. She would surely make a fantastic racer.

However she wouldn't be racing anytime soon, upon arrival it became clear she was pregnant, however she was small for a Thoroughbred, and the foal she carried was even smaller, you could barely tell she was pregnant.

It had been a slow year for foals at RAS. So everyone was very excited about the new arrival.

Foal:

Registered Name: White Knight
Barn Name: Ghost/Casper/Snowy
Breed: Thoroughbred
Gender: Colt
Age: 3 months
Height: To make 15hh
Color: Dominant white
Genotype: Ee/aa/Ww
Story:
Brilliant white. No other way to describe him. Everyone at RAS was surprised to see him, and everyone had their own nickname for him.

White foals are myths. Could he really be genuine? Jasmine double checked the breeding history, but there were no records of the sire, and all Fae's bloodlines were standard bays, greys, and blacks. So there was no chance of him being a pale cremello.

Suddenly she was worried, what if Fae and the father carried the Overo gene? She had heard of OLWS before, also known as lethal white syndrome. Where foals born white as snow die within the first few days of their life. But there was no overo gene, he was pure Thoroughbred.

White Thoroughbreds are very rare, and highly prized. Truely this little horse was a blessing. He was so tiny, he would only just make 15hh, the smallest of all the Thoroughbreds on the ranch.

He had the same sparkle in his eye that his mother has. Something of greatness about him. Time would tell for this little foal. But everyone sensed he was bound for greatness.

A little white knight.
